Private Citizen sends your do-not-call request to over 1,500 junk calling firms.

Private Citizen, Inc
The following reflects the types of telemarketing related organizations we contact on your behalf.  The message we send them is contained in the Private Citizen Directory which includes your notice of unwillingness to freely accept their calls or allow the  distribution of your name / phone number.  It also includes your offer, allowing them to use your time (in answering the phone) and property (your telephone) on a for hire basis of $500 per call.  If they call, they accept your offer.  Essentially, we turn your phone into a 'pay-per-call' service. (The 900# industry generates billions of dollars annually using a similar legal framework.)

The majority of Private Citizen Directories are sent to the national headquarters a firm . For example, we send a do-not-call Directory to the national headquarters of 'Olan Mills Photography'. Such a centralized notification puts their 817 facilities on notice.  Likewise, Merrill Lynch's headquarters serves more than 500 offices. Century 21 Real Estate has over 6,000 offices. And there are hundreds of similar circumstances.

Thus, when Private Citizen sends your Notice and Offer to the more than 1,600 firms; tens-of-thousands of facilities are affected and hundreds-of-millions of telemarketing calls are stopped. Note: The combined phone firepower of the three largest U.S. telenuisance-marketing firms enables them to tele-annoy more than 100 people per second. Here's a partial and dynamic list of the types of firmscurrently on Private Citizen's do-not-call roster.

*    TSA = Telemarketing Service Agencies (hired to telemarket on behalf of other firms)
**  Firms purporting to employ disadvantaged/handicapped are often staffed by ex-convicts (honest!).

Note: Don't feel too bad about preventing calls made on behalf of non-profit organizations purporting to benefit veterans, police/firefighters, youth camps, etc. Such calls are often made by telemarketing firms whose business practice is to create charities in order to establish a basis upon which to solicit the public. One such firm (The Gehl Group, based in Florida) has over 50 telemarketing facilities across the nation. On average, less than 20% of what they collect actually gets to the non-profits they solicit for. Click here to read a US Appeals Court decision which allowed the Boulder County (Colorado) Sheriff to throw the blocks to Gehl's operation there.
